Please reconsider!! It is not weird at all. The people are really great. Check out their references and give it a try. You can tell by their references if you want to host them or not!!! The people who might really "weird you out" do not even know about these sites!!! You communicate with them by email and/or phone before they even know where you live and if you do not like the sound of them...you are busy that weekend and can't host them. That has not happened to us except as I mentioned above in my post...the ones that join for a specific event. That is not the spirit of the sites.

Perhaps one day we will. I know where my DH's worry stems from. One of my family members (who I totally trusted) stayed a weekend with us and stole from us (money and jewelry). He thinks that if family does that- a stranger might, too. I understand his concerns, but you don't even have to let them sleep or be alone in your house, do you? They can camp in the backyard, right?

My DH signed us up for WS in March this year and in May we got our first request, from a couple in Australia. They were planning to fly to Portland end of June and ride their bikes from Portland to New York over the summer. We emailed back and forth with questions from both sides, from them to decide whether they would like to stay with us, and questions from us to decide whether we wanted them here. We now have new lifelong friends.

With WS, you offer what you can, whether it is a bed in your spare room, your hide-a-bed in the living room, or a place to pitch a tent in your yard. You decide whether you leave them alone in your home or not.

Now I just have to figure out when we can head South where they can return the hospitality :-) DH plans to use the WS network when he does his next cross-country road trip next year.

    OP - Warm Showers

I am the OP about Warm Showers. Ethan came in Saturday afternoon, with a torrential downpour as well. My husband met him about 20 miles out and rode back with him. What a wonderful young man he was! We had such a great experience, listening to his stories, finding out about his life and what he was going to do when he got to Haiti. We will definitely do this again. I HIGHLY recommend Warm Showers!!!
