Having ridden and raced in all sorts of conditions I've had a fair amount of grit in my shorts. I've never known it to cause UTI (never had one at all), but it sure can cause *nasty* saddle sores. Even sans the added friction of undies grit can rub a body raw. 1 kind of poorly designed chamios (in all our shorts, same team) + 1 really rainy gritty race day + 6 women racers sharing a cabin = many yelps when the water in the shower first hits the heiney.
