    Saturday, July 24 Hot Rides

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I had a beautiful 48.5 mile ride this morning - did start at 7:30 am. Temps were already 79 by then. I started to do this ride at 2:30 yesterday afternoon but decided to wait until this morning, I am glad that I did!

Short ride today -- too hot! We did about 20 miles out to Lake Lanier. Even on the water it was brutally hot at 8am. But despite the heat there were literally hundreds of riders out this morning, which was great.

Eight of us rode 32 miles this morning, starting at 6 a.m. When we finished at just after 8, it was already pushing 85 degrees. I looked at the weather a little while ago - 99.5 F; heat index 116...

Beautiful bright, sunny day and breeze. It never gets too hot where we are..today around 26 degrees C.

    55 kms.
Then stopped at farmers' market near end to load up on a ton of fresh veggies and fruit. Had chocolate cinnamon bun. Not sure I'll that again, it was more of sugar bomb than expected.

Downtown and midtown areas of city seem quiet traffic-wise.

Tonight people will flood into downtown for fireworks by the beach areas.

Oof I won't complain about the heat here at all. It *is* hot for here, but nothing like what you ladies are having!

Left at 7 am to take the MAX train out to Gresham to start a 50 mile loop out along the historic Columbia River Highway and up Larch Mountain and back. 14.5 mile climb, just shy of 4000 ft of elevation. I had tried this once before, in May 2009, but got stopped at mile marker 11 by 2 feet of snow. Today, my friend and I made it all the way to the tippy top. We weren't fast, but we did it. Yay!

Catrin - I'm glad one of us had a brain yesterday, LOL. I did ride, and OMG it was so awful hot! My schedule is insane with my move right around the corner so sometimes I just have to ride when I can. I pretty much stuck to the Monon on the commuter and did one water bottle to drink the other to dump over my head. Gonna try for early tomorrow at Eagle Creek and area. Maybe see you out?

Well, when someone crazier than I questioned the wisdom of heading out yesterday afternoon it seemed good to listen...

I am planning on heading out after church (over at 10). They are saying that it will rain tomorrow morning, with highs in the low-mid 80's. It sounds wonderful so you may want to wait until later in the day I am planning on heading to Boone County for a 28-30 mile loop - I don't know much about the area around Eagle Creek except for the park itself.

Of course it IS the Brickyard tomorrow....

Challenging 30 miler with the LBS group. Hill after hill after hill. The first half was a very familiar route and I did better than I ever have in the past. The second half kicked my butt though. Admittedly, knowing I have demonstrated improvement makes me very pleased

Little by little... I'm getting there!

Tried to go for a ride at 2, but it felt like someone was holding a hot hair dryer in my face. Cut it short and rode home in disgust. Will head out at 6:45 a.m. tomorrow and do better.

Any day biking is a beautiful day

The heat was brutal for the 25 miler this am. Was in the 90s by 9:00am. Home by much later than 9:00am, left at 8:45. Being on my rans rocket is such freedom after a very long two year healing time. Any day biking is better than any day not.

33 miles, starting at about 78 degrees when we started and over 90 when we finished, with 50% humidity, which is high for a desert rat like me. I had to take a shade break just before the end. My quads are very sore now - was it yesterday's pace to avoid a thunderstorm? Or today's more hilly ride with a group?

Just a few miles, probably only 3. I'm experimenting with riding to the store now that I have a rear rack with basket on the GT commuter. It worked well.
