Tri -- My husband's clot took a long time to go away, too, and he was hospitalized, on a heparin drip and prior to that, he was doing lovamox shots into his belly (the last did no good in preventing the Pulmonary Embolism). Because the clot was so resistant and they wanted him out of the hospital, they put an IVC filter in near his kidney, in case more pieces broke off from the clot or it moved.
It took them awhile to get my husband's INR level "therapeutic" for the warfarin. According to my DH, they have you on a low dose of cumadin -- he takes twice that amount daily to keep him clot free. Of course, he's a big boy. ;-)
Thank God your clot is a result of the trauma and not due to a genetic flaw. Warfarin scares the bejesus out of me. Sending you lots of clot dissolving karma!
