I can't run in this heat and humidity. While I can ride, that's not so great, either. I feel for those of you who live in places where it's like this all of the time.
Today was my rest day. Since I am unsure as to whether my ride tomorrow will be a go (rain), I decided to walk to the farm stand, get my lettuce and raspberries, and return home. My guess is that it's about 1.75 miles to the farm stand. Of course, it was 11:38 when I left, 87 degrees and 34% humidity. Once I get down my hill, it's shady, though. The whole trip took me about 55 minutes, including my time buying my produce. Thankfully, lettuce and raspberries are not too heavy in a backpack.
It was damn hot! I brought one of my 10 oz. bottles from my Nathan pack and it was gone before I got home.
Despite the impending rain, it is going to remain hot and humid through the weekend and then just hot (90's) next week.
Forty degrees sounds pretty good to me right now.

Forgot to update here, I ran 3 or so miles today with my dog. It was nice and cool, only got into the 70s today. Still tshirt and sweating weather, but we only stopped for resting in the shade once.

At the pace I have been running many of my maintenance runs, she likes to run in the grass alongside me. I like it because it keeps her at pace without her falling behind like she does on pavement. It's also easier on her feet and keeps her away from many distractions. She hasn't been well-exercised since Ironman, only a few runs and a couple walks, and it was cooler today, so she's got a little more energy than usual and wanted to run a little faster. I felt like my hips and quads were starting to creak, so we had to slow down.

I'll go back to yoga and riding for a few days, and run again soon. I do enjoy running the cooler days, though. I hope to put back some short/few riding intervals this week as a test, and will do the same with running next week.

Talk about running in the heat, try Florida July thru Sept. I went out a bit too late Monday morning at 8:30, it was a sauna. Garmin battery died after about 1 mile. Have no idea of my pace, very hot, few short walks & just did 3.4 mile loop. Plan today was to get up at 6, have my coffee & out to run by 7 before it gets too hot. But I sit here playing with the cats. Maybe I'll be.out there by 7:30.
I am joining a running group for my 1/2 marathon training this weekend. So I will have a schedule of runs & have to be accountable.

Kat, I lived in Miami for almost 5 years...
I don't think I could run in that!

Well I did 3.4 miles today. Was not as hot as yesterday. I am starting to get back to a 11 mm pace. I know not stellar, but given the heat and my iradicate running I'm pretty ok with it. So I am joining a running group. They are training for either the Disney half or whole marthon which is early Jan. But some of their target "training" races include the half marathon I am doing in Nov. I want to PR...so under 2:10. This sat is firt meeting and we do a 5k "time trail" to find out what running group we fit in. So my 5K time today was 35 min. Of course I am sure if I start with a slower group but continue to work on my speed I can move up a group.

Crankin (and all of you non hot weather runners),
You can imagine my amazement when I see people out running at NOON here in the summer. Even 5 -6 PM running is miserable, very hot evening sun here. So IF I don't get out in the morning then I don't run. Good news is when we finally have cooler mornings in October (occ. in sept) then my speed "jumps" up. Amazing how running in the low 70's can lead to a quicker pace.

katluvr - when I lived down there (Tampa, St. Pete and Clearwater) I either ran before the sun came up, or I tried to shoot for 5pm during the thunder showers. I didn't mind being soaked, but I hated being hot! I HATE heat. I cannot believe that I lived in FL for 7 years and didn't hide inside the entire time!

Though to be fair, NC was hotter in the summer. THAT sucked.

Anyway, I'm sure happy to be in the PNW!! I ran last night after work and it was about 72F. It was a glorious run, truly. I was really, really enjoying it until the last leg on the way back. I had some digestive issues that I really tried to ignore/control but I couldn't. I had to run/walk the last half mile or so and I barely made it to the restrooms in my building (I run from work). Phew! I was more than a little bummed because I was feeling so good that I was going to go further than usual, too. Oh well.

I did wear those capris commando and they were very comfortable. No migration into places they didn't belong! I also utilized the tiny zip pocket on the back of the waist band for my cell and it worked great...I totally didn't even notice it was there. I saw that D1ck's carries these same bottoms ($45), so I might have to pick up another pair in a different color in the near future.

My knees have been achy the past few days, and that's highly unusual for me. This morning, I figured it out-- for the past week I've been cat-sitting for my brother. So twice a day I've been taking the stairs up to his 7th floor apartment. No wonder the knees are complaining!

Today was an easy 4 miles, with a great view of the sunrise. Almost makes me glad for the heat and humidity, otherwise I'd likely not be out and about so early!

    Awesome! I think I'll try a pair.
