skirt clip?

(I tried looking this up but didn't see it...I'll keep looking, in case it's been asked.)

Does anyone have a recommendation on how to keep regular (e.g., non-athletic) skirts in check while riding? I have a very short commute to my summer placement and don't want to gear up into biking togs, but want to keep skirts from flying up and away while riding. I've thought of trying office clip binders, but wondered if there was something more gentle on fabric (and likely to stay in place). Thanks!

I like UnderArmor shorts as underwear under all my skirts, anyway. Smooth like a slip, no lines, and that extra touch of modesty for when I sprawl out tripping over my own feet.

I have also tucked my skirt up under my jacket, leaving just the shorts exposed as I ride. Works fine.

An S-Biner? I don't wear skirts ever, but I do use S-biners to make my pants fit better with the vibrams. I'd think you could use them to clip either side of the skirt?

I used a clothes pin - the kind with the spring. Works well. I would clip my skirt below my top tube (my bike was a mixte and my skirts were long). Just remember to take it off before dismounting and trying to walk away or you'll either knock over the bike or fling clothes pins off into the distance!

(Oh, and a binder clip worked in a pinch, too)

I thought about the clothespin too, but envisioned snapping it off into my head by mistake. The shorts are a good idea but I'm worried about getting too hot on my ride. I'm thinking of making something like a big scrunchie to go around my legs and hold the skirt to my thighs....I was hoping someone else already had.

What about pinning a weight to your skirt to keep it from blowing? That way, if you forgot to remove it, it wouldn't go flying. I'm thinking that a cute (but reasonably weighty) pendant on a large safety pin or something? It would keep it from blowing up but not actually attach you to the bike.

Depending on the length and shape, drawing up the back and tucking it into the front waistband can work.

You'll look a bit like Alladin.

Another way to strategically cover up things is with a purse positioned just so. I am a bit of a bag ***** and my new love is a cross-the-chest black and white Vera Wang bag. It's great on the bike and positions great to cover up a multitude of issues when wearing a skirt!

I ride in skirts and dresses often and it depends upon the skirt. I usually shy away from too light material, something with some weight to it is more likely to stay put. Also too short is no good, though if you're going to work I wouldn't expect this to be an issue. I've found that I can ride in a typical pencil skirt or a-line knee length with little to no problem, sometimes I put a hand down to hold my skirt as I whoosh down a hill, but that's about it. Though one does have to be more conscious about how she gets on and off her ride. Patagonia makes a terrific skort that is totally work appropriate.
