OMG!! I feel for ya! I have the same kinds of issues at the start of my period, and I'm not sure I would have pushed through it like you. Be proud of yourself If you enjoyed it at all - a big IF - I'd try it again, especially since this was just your second time swimming in open water.
I have my first tri on Tuesday evening - I'm starting small, a SUPER MINI Tri, so I can get a feel for open water with lots of people around me, transitions, and the whole experience before I do a sprint tri.
I will be thinking of you, and if you did what ya did last night with how you were feeling, surely I can get through this little tri

Wow, that's awesome. Way to pull through. Physical or emotional issues are hard enough, let alone having BOTH at the same time. So... period: 0. You: 1. You win this round!

Thanks, ladies. I showed my uterus who's boss. Of course, the Bailey's and Ibuprofen after the race helped, too!

I will be trying again at another sprint tri on July 25 - Trek Women's Tri in Columbus. I won't have my boyfriend there to get me through the swim, but I'm crossing my fingers that I am not on my period! The bike and run will be slightly shorter, so I should be able to crank those out pretty hard.

It helps that I got to enter the race for $1!

I am, however, planning on sticking to duathlons through the rest of this year after the Trek tri. I will work harder on swimming over the winter, so hopefully I feel comfortable enough for some real triathlons next year.
