So today is my husband and I's 15th anniversary. We occasionally like to go out, mostly like to stay in and cook but wanted to celebrate somehow. Step back to 3 p.m. and me returning home from work. Me walking in the door...seems kinda hot in here, hhhhmmmm. Walk over to A/C thermostat, wow it says 81 degrees. Our heat index right now in Miami is like over 100. I punch the thermostat...nothing. AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH. Cue the front door... husband walks in, gee ... seems kinda hot in here..."yup" i say. Walk outside and see the fan blowing but no cold air coming out. Really... seriously? Mess around with the thermostat, nope, not working. Call the landlord, he calls the A/C guy who "can't make it tonight". He says it sounds like the coils froze. Just turn the system off for a couple hours and let it defrost.
Cut to 6 p.m., Papa Johns just arrived with a HUGE pizza, husband pouring red wine, fans blowing, dogs and us...panting. Happy anniversary honey!
(Just one of THOSE days, thank you for listening)

What awful luck, although I'm secretly jealous of the hot weather you are having.

Maybe splurge on a nice hotel room for the night?

The thought has crossed our minds. Three dogs... now I have to take tomorrow off and wait for repairman. We just took the thing apart and the blower is shot. No cold air for us!

It's 54 degrees here. I've got the heat on, and have been wearing a wool turtle neck with a sweater over that, long pants, and wool socks in cowboy boots all day.

Can I have some of your excess heat?

    Gotta love that Seattle Summer!

Hope things get better for you!

we finally got our ac fixed afterr 10 days of feels like temps in the high 90- to triple digits. It was so hot that we have interesting wax sculptures crawling across our mantlepiece from the candles that used to stand 14 " high and straight. It is such a relief to have it back- not up to ful strength but at least the inside temp is down in the 80's. So glad we are leaving for CA to see our son and his finacee get their Ph.d's and then get married tomorrow- at least 10 days out of the heat.

    Congrats on your anniversary-

Hope the ac gets fixed soon

When I lived in AZ, our AC was set on 82 all of the time.
    When it's 112 out, 82 is cool!

If you've never been in Florida in the summer, you have no idea.

I thought Ohio in summer was humid. Not even close.

The thing that killed me the most, the one summer we spent there, was having to run the AC when it was in the mid-70s outside at night, because if we didn't, every single thing in the house would turn to mold overnight. Literally. And that was north-central Florida - south Florida is worse.

FTR, in Ohio we haven't even turned our AC on since 2007. The days when it's been over 90° have been few enough. I hope it still works, because we just replaced it in 2005.

Kermit, I hope it was just your coils freezing. (But yeah - when we did turn the AC on, we set it to 82° - which hopefully would keep the coils from freezing, too.)

I lived in S. Florida, too for 5 years. One of the tricks we were told to prevent mold was to never completely shut any door in your house, like closets, doors between rooms, even when the AC was on.
I am really not sure which was worse the "dry" heat at 112 degrees, or the 90 degree, 90 percent humidity. All I know is that when people complain about the winter here, I just smile.

I have NO idea how you guys survive in that kind of heat. I'm in NH and the three days we have over 80 kill me.

    Oh, and happy anniversary!
