I ran 6.5 miles on Sunday morning. 9:45 average pace. Not bad.

Gardening is interfering with my running (and riding) of late. Somehow I ended up the head of our new little community garden at my church, and we've ended up working mainly in the very early morning. So today, instead of my planned 7 miles, I did a 5k tempo run (in 26:45, not bad for running a hilly route alone) and then unloaded a pick-up truck load of topsoil.

Tomorrow, I'll get in a decently long run, no matter what. Even if it means getting up at 4 am, it's going to happen.

    Yesterday = 4 miles in 40 minutes

Today = 1 tandem ride in God only knows how many minutes (practicing my captain skills for TourdeCure)

Well, I did manage to run to the Y this morning (at 4:45 am!!). On the way back I had to take a couple of walking breaks on the uphills. It feels good to have cooler weather to run in!!

I did my usual 1.75 this am. I have felt good gradually moving my milegage up in increments. Running at the track also allows me to do more self analysis (on my running techniques) as I run, so that is good. The best thing that happened today was that I was able to keep my heart rate in check throughout the whole run. I have never been able to do that yet. I went in with the idea of going slow from the beginning because I tend to go to fast.

My next challenge is to start slow but somehow speed up the my second mile. That second mile just seems to drap on. I am struggling with ways to keep my mind occupied during the "middle" run.

    Thanks for the posts guys!

    The race went really well!

I had a good solid swim, and then the bike was quite hilly. I broke a spoke and stopped to mess with it, and we had a mandatory dismount to walk around some spilled oil in the road. The run was brutally hot, and there was a nice hill that we ran twice. I really wanted to be under 6, but I would have had to have had an incredible last 5K, and I just had an ok last 5K. I still PR--ed the distance by 21 minutes, so I was really happy with the race!

    Thanks for the support!

We are on vacation in Boulder, CO, and I went on a "recovery hike" yesterday! I hope to be able to do some trail running by later in the week!
Slow and steady (like a train!)

I called the pool to find out when I can aquarun there. 7am tomorrow will be my first go at it. In place of a 9 mile run, coach says I need to aquarun 60-90 minutes. Totally dreading it. Currently trying to figure out how I can mount my MP3 player to the top of my swim cap so that I don't go entirely insane.

KACIE - Congrats on a great event and the new PR!!

Kacie-Congrats on your Tri. At least you were able to do a PR. Nothing wrong with that! Enjoy the cool mountains of Colorado.

    Congrats, Kacie!

Susan, I have a waterproof case and headphones for my MP3 player that I use in the pool. It works great.

Kacie-Awesome job. That is an excellent time!

Susan-If your pool is anything like mine, the old folks will keep you entertained!

We did a hard fast brick yesterday as I am in a mini taper for an Olympic this weekend. The run off the bike was just two miles, and we brought the second one in a 7:42. No wonder it hurt!

    Wow that's fast!

It was rainy and windy last night. So instead of doing intervals on the bike, I did a nice long trail run. It was very serene. At one point a big owl swooped down the trail in front of me.

Thanks! I almost fell over when we hit the half mile point and my watch said 3 mins and change. Now if I could just string about 13 of those together.

60 minutes of aqua running this morning. It turns out that at 7am, the deep end is "open swim". There were two other folks with aqua belts on (I was lapping them ) and a few people swimming very slow laps down the middle.

I looped my MP3 cord around the player, rolled it up into my ponytail, piled that on top of my head and pulled my silicone swim cap over the top of the whole mess. Worked like a charm.

I managed to cover 1000 yards in 60 minutes. Played around with form and position a bit. Overall, I think it's a great aerobic workout, and I think my shoulders, lats and triceps actually got a fairly good workout too. My legs? I dunno. I'm somewhat skeptical about how effective it's going to be in helping maintain my run fitness, but it's only for 2 weeks (hopefully), so at least I shouldn't deteriorate too much.

Sounds interesting! I'll be curious to see how you do once you get back on the pavement. Hopefully you'll be able to keep your running fitness.

2.5 miles this morning and it was the best run I've had since the HM. It felt great. I'm running in the Susan B. Komen Race For The Cure in St. Louis this weekend and really excited about it.

Susan, I did some water running Tuesday night and was really surprised at what a workout it was. I couldn't understand why my glutes were sore after my swim and then it dawned on me it that it could have been the water running.
