I am still broken hearted my bike was stolen - in 5th grade! I am sorry your bike was stolen.

If the Synapse fit you well then you have ruled out the only reason I don't like mine. The carbon is stiff, I feel like when I get out of the saddle every ounce of effort is used none wasted by a flexing frame. My biggest complaint is the top tube is too long and they guy who sold it to me didn't care. Would the Specialized Amira be worth trying? It is a little racier frame but might feel different.

Would a Cannondale in aluminum make you happier? I think they have ones with carbon forks and seat stays but everything else aluminum. Maybe if you can figure out what you liked about the Cannondale you can make a better choice?

Did you know that there's a huge frame change between your 2008 Ruby and 2010 Ruby's? The geometry has been tweaked and the zertz and top tube are different shapes- it does change the ride.

I had a Ruby Comp 2006 and crashed it and ended up with a Ruby Expert 2009 and they ride differently. So do give the Ruby a go- it might suit you better.
