i have looked at some old threads on panniers but thought maybe i would start a new one. i want to get panniers for the luna orbit that in the not to distant future will be mine. i have been looking and reading and i really like look of the basil panniers. i mean they are so pretty! but i am wondering how well they work? i read a review on amazon someone said they are very large and her foot hits them making it so they don't work well for her. i am very small and will have a very small bike. will that affect panniers? i don't need something that large. these won't be for camping and such but will be more for taking a change of clothes and some art supplies with me.

i have been looking at these http://www.amazon.com/BASIL-BLOSSOM-...=26B7O0EVBPBA0

    and these

i don't need to get basil. i just like how they look and the price is ok too. i would like to find some really pretty panniers though.

has anyone made their own? it would be very cool if i could make them myself. not sure what fabric i would use. seems like it would need to be very strong...

I like the Basil panniers too and bought these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

I liked them, but I've never used any others so can't compare. They are very sturdy though considering they're made of fabric. I'm embarrassed to admit that I actually ownly used them twice, once to go to grocery store and they worked great.

If you're interested, I'm going to sell them because I'm going to sell the bike I bought them for and order something else for my new bike. I'd like to get $40.00 for them + shipping. Let me know if you're interested. BTW on my Khs Urban X I had to scoot them all the way back on the rack to keep them from hitting my heels.

My bicycle is a very small frame (I'm 5'2" or 158cm) and I've yet to have any trouble with any of the panniers I use touching my feet. I do have small feet, though, so that might have something to do with it -- and also my current bicycle is a touring frame, longer than standard. My previous was a hybrid with a smaller overall length, and I had no troubles with that either, but I had panniers hooked as far back as possible.

I've had a Basil Prima Vista single bag in green for a couple of years now and it's still pretty good. I've even thrown it in the wash a few times to clean it up because of how lazy I am about things like touching my pannier after handling bike bits. It's a good size and the fabric has been wearing well.

The Basil bags are a darn sight more attractive than any of the other ones usually mentioned on forums as good. I mean, I own a full set of Ortliebs, but they're not pretty. You don't want to carry one around on your shoulder as you go to work!

There are other ones which look pretty neutral as well, for example the satchel: http://www.cyclechic.co.uk/shop/satc...nier-p-34.html

If you do go for the making-your-own version, there's http://goo.gl/paQ3 hooks you can then use to put on your own satchel or shopping bags ... and then there's the huge variety of oilcloth out there you can make it out of, or canvas! Good luck with that if you do choose to go that way!
