    Dahon Sport

my DH got a wild hair up his.. well... He has a bike friday which never fit him right and is a bear to pack and unpack. It put me off folding bikes... Then our buddy here on TE NbyNW showed up to a te bike ride on a Dahon, and hey, that looks like something I could do!!

He decided we needed folding bikes, so now we own two. We bought matching Dahon Sports (they're forest green, unlike this photo)
    last week.
Except for saddle issues, This bike is nice. It doesn't have the chain rings, they are hidden in the rear hub; but it still has 18 (21?) gears.
Folds easy enough, is close to the same weight as my regular bike, shifts nice, handles gravel really well, I'm liking it!!
It's supposed to fit into a samsonite bag, but not the one we have. The reason for these bikes is for travel and ease in combining bike/car trips. A regular bike box is very expensive to ship any more. theoretically, these will solve that problem. I"m not sure yet, we're not done investigating the best carry case for them.

    Nice bike.
I've got a Dahon Jetstream P8 which I love for the fold and transportability. My two Bike Fridays (which I also enjoy riding) are not as quick and efficient a fold as the Dahon, but for long distance riding the BF is my bike of choice.

Congrats on your new bikes, Mimi. I'm with kmehrzad. I had a Dahon and it was fine for commuting and shorter rides. But my Bike Friday is much more suitable for long road rides. It takes me about 30 minutes to pack for travel. Less than 5 minutes to fold and put in a bag for quick transport--about the same as my Dahon.

We were surprised at the nice handling of the Dahon. My husband has ridden both bikes and feels the opposite (that the dahon rides better than the bike friday) but that's why there are so many brands of bikes; we all have our own opinions...

Hi Mimi! Somehow I missed your earlier post. I don't remember if you got the I-Beam seatposts -- if that's what you have, you should be able to find an adaptor that will allow you to put your Brooks on it.

Looking forward to hearing about your folding bike rides!
