    Wear black socks.
    Keep your drivetrain spotless.
    Learn to turn foot outward.
Don't spend time worrying about a little grease on your socks!

If I remember correctly SPD's are designed to disengage with either an inward or outward motion. I don't think it's "wrong" or that you are hurting anything. Do whatever works for you.

I don't get grease on my socks. Where is the grease coming from?

I've been clipping out the same way with the same cleats and pedals since 2003. The manager at the LBS has seen me do it and hasn't told me to stop. He did mention that it would prevent me from switching to some brands of pedals if I couldn't unclip by turning my heel outward.

I'd just say grease colored socks are the solution to your problem. Of course I also don't buy a car if the interior isn't the color of coffee

I unclip heel in always. Can't turn my toes in enough to unclip the heel out way. I can't ski either, because you have to toe in there too.
