I read it a couple of years ago. It is awesome! There are some really amazing stories in there. And I definitely will NEVER ride in a certain state (names withheld to avoid giving anything away). Maybe two certain states.

A TE friend sent it to me in a book exchange we did a couple of years ago. You're right, it was a great read! I don't think I could do their trip. Between the miles of endless prairie and their bouts of illness, nope, not for me.

On the otherhand, the adventure sounded like loads of fun!

I also really enjoyed the book. Found it so sad reading on the cover or preface that she had later been killed on her bike.

I'd love to do the US & Canada part, and Europe, but would be too chicken for the rest. You make a great point about the bouts of illness! It was the miles of endless prairie (and headwind) that I was thinking of with the second state I mentioned.

I'm with you, Skierchickie and bmc. I just don't think I could do what they did. The unhealthy and unsanitary food, water and lodging in some of the countries would have done me in. I would've been on the first flight home. I think sleeping in a tent and using a port-a-john is roughing it! We are spoiled, aren't we?

If I am reading a good book, I always flip to the last page and read the end. I know, I'm weird, but I've always done it and wish I hadn't when I read this one. It spoiled it for me.

It must be hard to do a cycling book exchange--there are so few cycling books! At work we used to put a box in the corner--put your name on the inside cover, then throw one book in the box and take one out. Unfortunately, now all my coworkers either don't read, or only borrow but don't have anything to share (library people!) So I bought a kindle, but I do have the new Kurmaskie and Travels with Willie laying by my chair

This is just about the only cycling adventure book that I keep re-reading every few years. She had an engaging writing style that went way beyond the simple "logging" of miles and sights that so many other books in the genre use. While I could never see myself replicating their entire journey, I get great vicarious pleasure out of following their adventure!
