Well, I kinda figure that if it's available nationwide in the US, it doesn't really deserve to be called beer. The microbrews referred to by veloputt on the other hand...

    hello

Hi, ladies! I've been lurking quite a while and wanted to introduce myself before the new year. I've learned a lot from all your advice and look forward to participating more.

    Real name: Emily.

Where do you live? Phoenix, Ariz.

Explanation of your handle: My favorite doll when I was little was Thumbellina. My handle is a combination of her name and mine.

    Explanation of your avatar: coming.

    Age (general or specific): 25.

    Occupation: journalist.

Favorite bike: I don't have one yet, but I'm very happy with my only bike so far.

What's in your stable? Trek 2100.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 32.8 mph, down a long, gradual hill near Lake Pleasant this fall. Near the bottom of the hill, I heard a hissing sound -- it was a rattlesnake about a foot away from my bike! Believe me, I picked up the pace.

Another picture of yourself or your ride? also coming...

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: That feels so good!

Most memorable moment on my bike: Climbing to the top of South Mountain. You gain about 1,100 feet in 5.5 miles. I've never wanted so badly to get off my bike, but I really felt accomplished after I finished!

Most fun ever had on a bike? The first time I rode at night. I loved the connection with my bike; it was the first time I felt like we were working completely together.

Hello all. Just learned about this site and joined up. Here's my blurb.

    Real name: Deb.

Where do you live? Wayland, Mass.

Explanation of your handle: First name and initial. I have no imagination.

    Explanation of your avatar: none

    Age (general or specific): 50.

    Occupation: atmospheric scientist.

Former occupation: Bike Mechanic. 1973-1976 in Florissant, Missouri. Best years of my life.

Favorite bike: Frame is from PerformanceBike around 1980. Sew up rims. Campy Tipo (1974) high phlange hubs. 6 speed freewheel (Regin Oros were the best). SunTour Superbe Pro crankset (now defunct company). Campy Record derailleurs (~1965, got is used). Speedplay pedals.

What's in your stable? My 1974 yellow Maino. We have lots of good miles together so I could never get rid of it.

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 99mph. Really. That's what the computer said (well, it was raining at the time).

Another picture of yourself or your ride? not right now

Most memorable moment on my bike: I've done Boston to Martha's Vineyard in a day, but that was a long time ago.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Building wheels is fun. Getting covered with grease is fun. Riding is fun too.

Stupidest thing ever done on a bike: Guess it's a tie between falling asleep in 1978 and breaking my collarbone in 2004.

Blasphemous words! I had a Coor's Light, yuck, after my only race this year. Geez, it never tasted soooo good. I downed it like a soda pop and I don't drink alcohol very often or very much at a time.

That's because it is basically soda pop But I'll bet it was very refreshing.

I've seen time and time again that even humdrum food tastes wonderful after a long ride. Heck, maybe I'd even enjoy a Coors Light after a ride. Especially if it was the only beer available ...
