    Outdoor public bike art

I initially knew about only 1/2 of these permanent bike art installations in our city, some which I didn't look hard enough at. Or used to just cycle by, abit clueless.

So easy to get used to outdoor art and take the ho-hum attitude. But alot of other cities don't have it. Or do they?

Oh yea, this would not include artful bike parking racks. (I know for certain Toronto beats Vancouver on this one.)

    Nice.
I would love to like there.

We have some pretty fun art in the city here too, because we got all cuted up for the 2002 games.

Someone could do a whole blog or book on bike rack art --worldwide.
Right now, am waiting for channelluv and pardes' cyclists' restaurant review blog..

Or restaurants with overtly bike art themes. I know a bakery on Vancouver Island that has bike installed with faux baguettes, installed over the shop front. Worthy of a restaurant review and art review.

Looks it's treated with respect too, Fredwina.

This bike sculpture at a downtown university campus in Toronto has a more serious message:

    http://www.ruthard.ca/art/university.html

For those who don't know, it refers to the Tienamen Square massacre (1989? Guess I have to check the Internet) in Beijing in China when university student protesters were mowed down during a gathering in support of a pro-democracy movement. One of the photos that was published worldwide in papers/on tv, was a crushed bicycle that would have belonged to student(s).

And the other famous photo at that time, was the lone ordinary person walking out in front of a huge army tanker.

I guess it's like a bike memorial but with a strong political message. This sculpture could have only been allowed to exist on a university campus. At least in Toronto.

Malkin, here's a suite of Toronto's bike rack art:

    http://bikerackart.com/index.html

I have visited the city several times since most of my family is there, but never seem to pay attention to the "finer details" that have developed in the city. Obviously I lock up my bike there elsewhere because I visit other areas of city.

But perhaps, should pay attention in a fews month or so, when I'm there.

Chicago and Paris come to mind. Well, Paris had bike art 10 years ago. Not sure if they still do.
