wife kicks butt in cycling

Is it normal for a gal to kick butt in cycling if shes got more experience? My wife gained alot of weight early in our relationship and then got into cycling to get it under control

The upside of questions like these is the pleasure and satisfaction I get from passing men, going uphill, on my mountian bike.
And Mr.Joe, I'm sure your wife loves that you discuss her weight on the internet with a bunch of strangers.

Yup, this is a weird thread. Like arielmoon, I beat lots of guys. Lots of guys beat me. Sure, in general male athletes are stronger/faster than female athletes at the same level of training, but in a random male/female couple it's more like who happens to have better genes, a more suitable body type, a better athletic base from before, is more active, trains better, has a lighter bike, yadda yadda yadda.

But y'all already said that so I'll go shut up

I've just been shaking my head, thinking wtf - if it was his best male friend that had started cycling a ton and the best male friend was kicking his ***, would he have gone on road biking forums going "is it normal that someone who's riding more often than me and training more is kicking my *** up the hills?"

And of course - if this was a male forum that he was on, I'm thinking they'd ask for his wife's number and ask him what kinda pansy has a wife who can bike faster than them?

heh, this is indeed a strange thread... I was just picturing what I would think if an (non-existent) partner were to go on a forum full of strangers and say what he has been saying. I would NOT be happy with that person!

I wasn't particularly offended. I try to compare my abilities to someone's experience and the type of bike they ride. For instance, I am proud that usually on a century nobody passes me on a hybrid bike like what I have. I also told the husband that if I'm riding his tail, he should go faster to challenge us more, although I will get faster as the season progresses. I like when I am able to maintain a faster pace than him because that just means I'm getting fitter, not just that I am winning against him, I'm competing with myself, not him. We are training partners.

We went on an extra long ride today and she kicked my butt again. damn she rides almost everyday. hard to keep up with that

It's not really hard too keep up with "she rides every day," Mr. Joe.

You'll catch up if you ride every day too!

(DH used to kick my butt, I had to do two rides a day to catch up.)

My husband literally rides circles around me. He rides almost twice the distance I do, because he has to keep doubling back.

However, I've run three marathons. He attempted running--either in an attempt to spend time with me, or prove "if you can do it, I can do it." He made it twice around the block.

and bicycling is not as easy as it looks
