I have a new forum name...

    Hello everyone,
I just changed my forum name and I wanted to reintroduce myself .

As my tagline suggests, my old forum name was Liza. However, "Liza" is not actually my first name. I chose it because I didn't want want to use my real first name on a forum... Liza a diminutive of my middle name (Elizabeth) and my mom used to call me "Liza-bug" when I was little.

I decided to change it because every single time I exchange PMs with someone, I feel compelled to tell them this little story to explain why my forum name is a given name, but different than my actual first name. For some reason, calling yourself "Jen" when your name is "Mary" seems a whole lot stranger (and almost deceptive) than calling yourself "Bikelover45" when your name is "Mary."

Or maybe it's just my weird sensibility... but in any case, now I won't feel like I need to explain myself every time I send a PM .

    Cheers,
    VeloVT

Hello again! I chose my handle from long ago. I just like the multiple images it suggests --a flower, a real star going by.

Instead, what I've been compelled to change is my email address which doesn't feature my whole real name. But for professional purposes it might look better if I did.

But too much of a hassle and no way, I want to deal with 2 different personal email addresses.

That's okay. I don't live in "Indy" anymore and my main ride is titanium. Go figure. I guess I could change it, but I like "Indy" as a nickname (for "independent").

    I have a confession...
I am a mom but I don't know how to fly. I don't even have wings.
Phew...glad I got that off my back.

    I like your new name.

People actually fly by me when they ride. Intentional deception on my part. Carry on.

PS~ Flyby was my 1st choice when I wanted a name and it was taken so I added the "e" ~ I might be slow but illiterate I am not

when forums started popping up, I came up with a handle that had a dimunitive form of my middle name, because like you I didn't want it identifying my real name but still kind of personal enough.

nowadays you don't really want "personal" anything online...

I chose "badger" because I was looking at a tin of badger balm when I was signing up

Naming things is always hard for me. So I wasn't creative, and still wish I could come up with something better.

i am a special type of vehicle called a mariacycle... it's perplexing to me that people think my name is maria!

Well if it makes you feel better - I'm anything but modern.
Sort of retro, actually. I should be called retro-cyclista. Dang. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

I joined back in 2006 -- I think it was the first forum I'd ever joined, and I just didn't quite think through the name thing. Or maybe I'm just neurotic (a more likely story, I guess)...

Well, I used my regular name, both first and last for the first few years I was on TE. When I decided to change, I couldn't think of anything, so I used part of my IM screen name, which again, when deciding on that, I couldn't think of anything, so I used the same one as my DH, with one change. Most of the things I would use, are something to do with riding, and those are already taken.
