Also check the abductor digiti minimi (the muscle that moves the little toe away from the rest of the toes; it's on the outside of the foot straight down from the ankle bone). If that muscle has trigger points ("knots") in it, it can cause pain there as well, and it's an easy fix (just massage out the knots a few times a day--you can roll the foot on a small high-bounce ball to do so). I only know this because I've experienced it.
