I'm riding a used set of wheels now, no issues.

Wheels are wheels, either they spin true or they don't, rims are intact (braking surface not worn through) or they aren't. Hubs can be serviced and re-greased. I'd be less concerned about race wheels than training wheels, personally (race wheels are babied and have low miles. Either they are crashed and gone or they are near new). But that's just my opinion.

Maybe not as a gift, but then again, I'd be more than thrilled to get a used but nearly new set of wheels, especially when they are that much to begin with!

You might contact the guy on RBR if you are really interested (honestly, I didn't read his ad, just the title). Haggle with him a bit and see what the price is for JUST the wheels. It costs money to list things there, so sometimes people lump a bunch of stuff together that they'd sell separate for the right offer.

    AAaaaaahhh, the old lump-stump-together-and-save-some-money trick.

Just when I was thinking the thought was going to have to count with this one, I mentioned your find to DH and he's checking them out as I type this....oof, they're several years old, babied or not. He's impressed by the price, though. He still wants the latest, lightest version. Naturally.

Ultimate combo: '10 Zipp 303 or '09 or '10 SRAM S40/Flashpoint 40 front wheel, with a ZIP 303 rear rim that he can build up with his power tap, and he'd lace them himself. He's just bought all those tools.

    Thanks, friends.

No details unfortunately, but may be worth contacting.
