    April 2 Rides

Awesome early morning ride this morning on my Trek! I've been wanting to tackle a rather large hill in the park where I currently ride and wanted to avoid the strong winds we've been getting in the afternoon. Fantastic hour ride, rode close to 12 miles, and climbed every hill I could find. Only had to walk up about 150 feet of THE hill.

I did spin in the easiest gears, which I was feeling a bit guilty about but I am just learning how to climb hills. I can't stand yet, indeed I won't even consider trying it - just taking my hand off the bars is still scary

I feel proud of myself, shifting was easier than it has been, and at the end of the hour I wasn't really tired at all. Knee got a little painful about halfway though - down the front of the knee- which is seat position so I need to look into that. It was FUN! AND I can finally look at the world around me without my bike wanting to go in the direction I am looking

Once I get the bar-ends figured with my new bike, it will be fun to compare how the two bikes feel on the same hills

I know that hill. I will probably be running up it later today.

I have the day off and went for a 23 mile ride this morning. It's really gorgeous out. There was even no wind, which is so amazing and unusual at this time of year. I felt very speedy.

I was a little afraid to see what damage was done by the flooding around my loop, and happy to report there's nothing to report! Unlike much of my state, Newport has weathered well this time, just a few more potholes (if that's even possible ).

Just like Red Rhodie, the weather is unbelievable. First I went out and rode 11.5 miles on my Jamis to an appointment. On the way, there were 2 areas of ponding on the road that I had to ride through. Only one foot got a little wet, though. By the time I got to the office where I was going, I had to take my hoodie off. It was even warmer when I left there. Took another way back, adding a couple of miles. Saw some people from my riding group, who were pulled over by the North Bridge; not sure what they were doing, but it was so busy with tourists I didn't stop. Came home, ate lunch and went to ride with a friend, in shorts and a short sleeved jersey! We did about 18 miles and I stayed behind her on purpose for the first 5 miles or so. I went ahead on 2 of my favorite flattish roads that I don't get to ride on that often anymore, so I felt like I had a good interval or two, including catching one guy who was pretty fast. Then I got behind my friend for the last mile. It's 71 degrees out...
    Lots of riding this weekend.

21.6 miles. Longest ride so far this year, and I'm feeling it. Legs were kind of dead and my hips are a little achy now. I've been doing other exercises during the winter, so I'm sure I have to adjust to being in the saddle again. I was surprised to see how many hoses were still going out to the street, pumping out basements. The Sound, however, was the picture of calm:

Took my new Luna out for her maiden voyage this morning - 5 mile loop - then DH and I took a 14 mile ride. It's the first time we've both been out together all year. It was really nice but where did my hill-climbing legs go??? Aghhhhh!
