I was going to take a day off after yesterday's windy 55 miles, but got a Sat afternoon invite to go out this morning.

It was great weather- sunny, no breeze. Two of us turned back part way, so I ended up with 30 miles by the time I got home- but the last 5 miles by myself I was definitely slowing down. It was a good way to end my spring break from teaching...back to work tomorrow :-(

I only had about an hour to ride yesterday, so I went out wanting to get as many miles into that hour as I could. About 30 minutes in I decided I couldn't fight the fierce winds that were blowing me all over the road anymore. Still, 8 miles is better than no miles, and it gave me a much-needed rest from my new business which has completely consumed my life. I need to find ways to make time for riding and take care of myself.

The same reason we only got 12 in! When it stops being fun, it's time to turn around and go home!

24 rolling-to-hilly miles yesterday. It felt really good to get out....until I realized that my new headset had worked itself loose A 32mm headset wrench is not something that I carry with me! So I took it easy on the descents, tightened it by hand when I could, and made it home ok. Needless to say, that was the first thing I did when I got home, even before a shower!

Good ride though....I didn't lose as much fitness over the winter as I thought.

I did 40 miles yesterday from Forestville to Healdsburg. A very good distance seeing as my highest ever has been 50 a couple weeks ago. I had a great ride, felt amazing, really hauled (for me) and didn't feel it all afterwards. I can really see the improvements stacking up between spin classes, learning my bike and me, and the new clipless shoes.

It was a busy day for cyclists here, we must have passed dozens along the route, everyone grinning ear to ear and smiling. It's so encouraging when you see someone going the opposite way and giving you a big smile, especially if you're working hard climbing while they're coming down.

I rode just shy of 22 miles; I'd intended to ride longer, but ran out of time because I spent a long time cleaning my kid's old bike and then yakking with another mom when I dropped the bike off at her house for her son to use.

The weather was really beautiful (even with the wind in my face); excellent for riding. I saw wood ducks in the lake; don't know that I've ever seen wood ducks there before (so so pretty!).

There were lots of people out on the trails, some of them smarter than others about it. I usually say hello to people as I pass, whether they are walking, biking, skating, etc., and I always call out my intent to pass someone and thank them (though sometimes the "Thank you!" is the only thing they catch because they have in earbuds and their music is turned way up). So I'm riding along the Anacostia Trail, call out my intent to pass a guy, and just after I pass him and thank him, he calls out "Oh, baby!" and then makes a kissy noise; this struck me then (and now!) as just hilarious!! It would have ticked me off if I were 30 years younger, but at my age and in my state, it's simply flat-out funny, which is probably not quite the effect he intended!!

Smile First outside ride of the season...

The weather here in PA was unbelievably beautiful all weekend. Put 50 miles on the cattrike and with more time and no dog to walk, it would have been many more miles. There is nothing like wind in your face and sunburned knees and forearms. Life is soooo good!!
