    A Fabulous Fifty Miler...First Time!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Hey y'all, I just wanted to crow. I rode 50 miles for the first time EVER in my life! Woo hoo!! And I did it in pretty decent time (for me, since I'm a beginner)...4 hrs and 15 min. which included my bathroom, and snack breaks. I live about 6 miles from the beach, rode down to Crystal Cove State Beach and back. Another good thing too is that the hills are getting a little bit better! My bike was in the shop this week so I rode up some hills on my old mountain bike two days ago. I really tortured myself but it seemed to help this morning.

I am feeling much better about the century I'll be doing this summer.
Thanks you guys for all the tips and support!! You are all incredible women!!

when I first started riding I would set myself a mileage goal first 25, first 50, first 75 and when I accomplished it I would put a yellow star decal on the top bar of my bike. The first time I did a century, I put a big red star on the bar. I continue to celebrate metric centuries (66.6 miles) with a yellow star and centuries with a red star. It's a good reminder when I have my head down and am struggling up a hill or through heavy headwinds.

Congratulations on the ride. It's a keeper annd great for mental dialogues with other people giving you a hard time. "You, who are you, what have you done witth your life lately? I am a distance rider and can do it any time I want so there.!"

Thanks Ladies!! Nancy I ride a Fuji Finest 2.0, a 2009 model that I just purchased about a month ago. It's my first road bike, quite a step up from my cheapie mountain bike!

Hey Marni, I like your "star" idea, kinda like earning those gold stars in school when we were kids!!

Thank you everyone for the kudos. When I hit 75, I'll let you all know!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Awesome job! I know that your feel so completely proud of yourself. And rightly so! I just finished my first metric century 3 weekends ago and I was so proud and humbled. It was an amazing accomplishment for me. Now onto 75 miles for me. Good luck to you and your 75!

I went from my longest ride ever of 42 miles and did a full 100 mile century. I know you can do it!
