Unfortunately Thursday. It's my birthday and I REALLY want to ride my bike.

Oh, that's right your birthday is on Thursday. That's a great way to celebrate ... going on a nice scenic ride. Can't join you on Thursday, but I wish you a happy and enjoyable day.

    Happy Birthday MDHillSlug!

You've got nice warm temps out there today to enjoy your b'day ride and NO RAIN (so it appears). Breathe in deeply the beauty of the outdoors and have a great day.

Happy Birthday, MDSlug! Looks like you might end up with nice weather. I think the rain is going to hold off until tomorrow? Please let me know what rain dance you did. Enjoy your ride!

Thanks for the birthday wishes and the ride suggestions.

I ended up riding the Rock Creek trail from Lake Needwood to just short of the DC line. With the 5+ miles from home to the trail head I did 40+ miles. The sun was in and out of light clouds. I was never quite warm enough to lose the long sleeve jersey but I frequently had it zipped down and the sleeves pushed up. I lost the trail at one point coming back and ended out at the road at the wrong place and needed to look at my iPhone map to figure out what to do.

My bike got a well deserved cleaning when we were done.

    Happy birthday!

I haven't ridden the Rock Creek Trail in years. How is it these days? Is all the snow melted in the shady sections?

This was my first time on the trail; the trail was in good shape everywhere and I enjoyed it. On the way down there was one spot with two piles of snow on the trail but they had melted off by the time I came back. The biggest obstacles were at the intersection with Randolph Road: on one side there was a downed tree + snow pile that you could ride around but I had to dismount on the other side to get around the snow and back on the trail.

I'm glad you had a good ride today. Looks like your bike was outfitted nicely with panniers, bike bags, and a couple water bottles.

The pannier had a lock and my rain jacket and helmet cover, just in case. The trunk bag had all my snacks. I was also wearing a Camelbak.
