I do think I'll make a jersey out of it! I'll post photos when I get it made... Then when I'm showing off the photo I carry with me of me IN the dress, I can really mean, this is before [pic] and I'm AFTER..

Awesome! Both RoadRaven and Jo's comment about keeping it sorta sparked the lightbulb (did somebody else say it too?? I wanna give full credit....). My mom's an excellent seamstress, so that helped the train of thought. I'm so glad you like the idea....and like llbloomer said, a new pic of you in it will complete the saga.
If it's a "busy" print, perhaps just make the bodice part from it, like a vest, but with a zipper and contrasting collar in a soft non-itchy material (don't wanna itch around the neck). The sleeves can be the same color as the collar, assuming you'd make a long sleeve jersey. Don't forget breathable wicking-type material for the liner and elastic or zippers for the back pockets.
