Hey CC, we can hear the hordes of fans pouring out of the arena where the game was, just 2 blocks away from home. Continous cheering ..downtown is just packed and in a different direction a helicopter showed another outdoor gathering spot near us that has 8,000 fans disbanding..

So this afternoon and tonight it's probably 150,000 extra people cramming in and celebrating downtown.

I have abit of mixed feelings about Olympic men's hockey teams vs. the women's. After all the guys are NHL players who go back to their respective teams tomorrow...

Women's Olympic hockey teams ...are really teams that play and train together for a longer time, regardless of their country affiliation. Since there's no women's professional hockey league.

But even so, we're heading out for fireworks viewing later tonight.

CTV is the official Canadian broadcaster for the 2010 Olympics. (Yes, I had hoped CBC would win the bid.)

    3rd

Yup, we found the CTV site & now can watch the opening ceremony..

As expected, channel 9 is gracing us with oooo...the 3rd period..ooooo...

    Channel 9 sucks

Btw..we had to laugh...An Australian announcer was amazed at the speed the hockey players go and how graceful they are...HAAHAHAAAA... Then again, i'm sure it's the same for anyone not familiar with Aussie Rules (AFL) or Cricket...

Yay Canada! I saw the the last 11 minutes of the game. I'm on standby for my job tonight and got called out to investigate a natural gas odour in a home...just managed to get to a TV in time!

Congrats Canada!!! I'm SO glad you won! I am American, but honestly I think winning the gold in hockey means so much more to Canada, and being on home turf- I *really* wanted them to pull off the win. I was actually a little disappointed when we tied the game at the end of the 3rd period.

Great job with EVERYTHING Olympic related Canada!! It seems everything the last couple weeks was first class all the way!

I might be American, but deep down I want to move to Canada and become one of you! Congrats!!!

Congratulations Canada! I know how much this win means to you all.

Here in Canberra we're thrilled for you - they had the Canadian High Commissioner on the radio to celebrate.

Crazycanuck - Channel 9, astonishingly, covered the whole game. You just had to ignore the idiot Australian commentary in the breaks.

Guess we'll see it..I just finished vacuming, he's making the rest of dinner and seeing it in between.

For non-Canadians here: really this type of sustained patriotism, but more international festivity and goodwill in the streets every day and people putting up with long transit lineups every day....it is unseen of for past few decades in Canada.
