Talking Nice job, Chris and Steve!

Last picture, I promise. Here's a shot of the custom decals. And if the owner's here, I hope she doesn't mind my sharing. Nice bike!

I don't think it's a generator hub, internal hub with Shimano STI shifters. This is not my decision to make because it's not my bike but I think it's just crying out for a Brooks with that butter cream color.

That bike is confusing. I thought it was a SS.
    What's it gonna shift?

The internal gearing of the hub.
Sturmey-Archer is the classic. Shimano has the Alfine and Nexus. My mom's folder has a nice internal set up. My recumbent had an internal hub, too.

ETA: link to Sheldon's internal gears page http://sheldonbrown.com/internal-gears.html I love the picture of the guts of an internal gear hub! Nightmare!

    Question!

I keep seeing "Venture" mixtes in my local craigslist and I can't find anything about Venture on the net - anyone heard of them/know anything?

Anyone have a late model mixte?
I am in the early stages of shopping for a city bike to use when we camp in more urban areas. We are thinking of a 3 or 8 speed internal hub mixte for me and a single speed as an equalizer for my husband. We would like baskets for shopping and our Jack Russell.
I like the idea of vintage but my husband who is the ultimate handyman in most situations is almost useless when it comes to bikes. He can build a house, do minor car and appliance repair and yet he can barely adjust his bike cables. I don't get it.
I had to take my bike in once to get his fix fixed!

So, is it over the top lame to purchase a new mixte?

No, not lame! I really like the looks of the Trek Bellville and the Globe Live 2 Mixte. There is also the Masi Soulville (in 3 different varieties), but I don't personally care for the curvy look... the colors are awesome on those though

There are some other "widely available" ones too, but those are the 3 that jump to mind.

Oh yeah, there's the Electra Amsterdam too...

There's also the Linus Mixte and the Electra Ticino mixte and the Soma Buena Vista.

I don't think it's lame to purchase a new mixte, but I'm biased since I have a Sweetpea mixte

We stopped at a bike shop in Athens, GA yesterday hoping to see a Gary Fisher Simple City. None in stock.
We have a Trek/Fisher LBS but it is not our favorite. They cater to higher clientele than Athens and I know they keep cruisers and city bikes in stock. We will eventually stop in.
Our favorite LBS carries Masi. They have fixies but no mixtes.

The Treks are nice. Good value with all the goodies attached. The eco-friendly construction is a nice touch.

I know this has developed into a thread hijack. I started a thread on this subject a while ago if anyone has a comment and would rather post there.

    RE: Nishiki Mixte

Sadly, it was too small--17" (or about 44 cm?). I felt squished. This guy had a garage full of mixtes, collects them, but this was the only one he was willing to part with. He was very helpful though. Rode a gorgeous 20", but I felt too stretched out. Looks like I need a 19". Sigh. I'll keep looking.

Masi does have a mixte. They have a 7 speed and 3 speed internal hub. Two sizes. Can't your lbs get one for you to try?

Peugeot Mixte I stripped, painted and built with parts from another bike.
Quarter fenders, 27" wheels, 5 speed rear stem shift.

A real sharp looking bike that ultimately cost $15 in parts!
