DH and I signed up for the San Diego Gran Fondo, the 52 mile version, which takes place next weekend. I haven't done 50 yet, but I did 32 miles or so after spin class a few weeks ago and that was pretty much a breeze, so I am fairly confident I will be fine. I am, however, still pretty excited and nervous! We just got our bikes not too long ago and this is our first organized ride.
Cycling just makes me go "Weeeeeeeeeeee."![]()

OK, somebody please enlighten me on Gran Fondo. There is one coming up in St. Louis. DH and I thought we were enlightened cyclists--but this is new to us

Gran Fondo is Italian for "big ride." It is simply a big organized ride - not a race.
The San Diego Gran Fondo was today. We did the 53 mile route. We got back about an hour and a half ago. It poured for almost the entire ride. I haven't been so wet and sandy for over 20 years! What fun. It was a really great ride. DH and I had a ball. I almost bailed (because my feet were numb from the cold) and did the smaller ride (30 miles) but we pressed on. I was glad I did. I feel good about not wimping out. This was our first organized ride.
