    Dilemma

I know -- the following is not going to sound like much of a dilemma, but, here it goes:

I am working with my LBS (who I think is great) to build a custom Serotta (Ottrott). We are down to deciding on finish, and I cannot get the finish I want. (I am going with the GS, which ends up with only a basic paint job.)

I realize that it sounds a bit petty, but would it be wrong to think about switching over to a different frameset in order to get a finish that I am happy with?

I know that the ride is the thing, but I am really concerned about making a big investment in a bike that I am not happy looking at. It is making me rethink the entire bike. Am I overreacting?

I would think that you could get another outfit to strip and re-finish the frameset. Maybe even ask Serotta to ship the bare/primed frame to your chosen painter, so that it doesn't need to be stripped. Margo from Luna posted a picture of one of her frames that was powdercoated by Spectrum.

Hmmm... well... I am certainly not the voice of financial reason.. but I'd get the one I want. I would somehow manage to justify the upgrade... I did spend too much on my last bike and every time I look at it, I smile and have not had a single second of regret...

I agree with both -- why not upgrade to the SE and get the paint you want, or get it completely unfinished and go with a truly custom paint.

Although, I would be all over this!

    No more eggplant!

They phased out the eggplant! I loved that, too...

Since you have decided to go the custom route, get the frame with the finish you want, assuming of course that the increase in cost does not completely blow your budget.

I agree, get what you want.
