Just sign up on their waiting list and see if you get a spot. I was on the wait list last year and got a spot.

I signed up even though it was not financially prudent for me to do so

Last year the registration was $35 and they raised $24,500 to donate to Blackwater.

This year the fee is $55, and they "hope to raise $35,000."

    Hmm $10,500 divided by $20 is 525.

They tried to cap the ride at 700 riders last year - between the dismal economy and the increased fee maybe they are hoping for 500 riders to raise that extra $10,500.

Will we get a receipt for our taxes?

    $55? Really?

I liked last year's ride, but I'm not sure that it would be worth an extra 20 bucks to me. Especially once you factor in the cost of accommodations...

Exactly. If a hotel room weren't necessary, the $55 on its own would be more of a possibility. As much as I love the idea of supporting Blackwater, my dollars are more likely to go to OneLessCar for the October Tour du Port ride in Baltimore.

$55 is just how much the Illustrator textbook costs.

It's a 2 hour drive from the D.C. area. The route is marked. We can have our own Blackwater ride any time we care to get ourselves over there. I'm sure Friends of Blackwater would gladly take a contribution independent of the Terry ride, if you were to choose to make one.

Meh, that's why I never do the civil war century or any of the rest of them. This can be my 1 organized ride a year.

Although, maybe I'll see if Rob wants to do the tour du port with Tam & I again.

You gonna give me a scwhag bag if we do an unsponsored ride over there? I know you've got enough stuff in your basement to put one together

Cat, I'd love to do TdP with you and Rob again, especially since I'll have a little more gearing this year to deal with the wind in Dundalk.

I still have an unused, unopened, still-in-plastic camera bag from last year's schwag bag. It's yours if you want it.

Just signed up & it didn't say anything about a wait list, so it may not have sold out yet.
DB: If you don't want to ride too far, do the short route with me.
