    Cycling Physics

One of the members of my cycling club (www.seminolecyclists.org) is a high school physics teacher. His name is Luther Davis and he has devised a way to teach his students the physics of cycling as well as perhaps raise some money for our upcoming Tour de Cure in February. His idea ia brilliant.

He will be riding his bike on rollers during the entire school day, 7 hours. During that time he will be instructing his students! He plans on keeping a 20 mph average which allow him to ride 140 miles.

Luther is an awesome guys. Fun to ride with and talk too. I wish that there were teachers like this when I was in school. If you would like you can visit his website. He has a couple of vides for viewing and the ability to donate to the American Diabetes Association.

    That is AWESOME!!!!

He's the type of exceptional teacher we could use more of. AMAZING!

Unfortunately, our daughter, who is the biggest math/science nerd you'll ever meet in your life and an A+ student, attends a high school that doesn't even offer Physics. Kudos to Mr. Davis for taking what is often a dull, dry subject and creating a fantastic learning experience for his students.

My high school physics teacher rode his bike to work, and often used his bike to show us various aspects of physics, like inertia and force (well those are two I remember!). That was in the mid-1980s. I'm glad there's at least one other physics teacher who is doing that!
