    Nike+ Sensor

Has anyone used the Nike+ Sensor with the ipod?

I am interested to know how accurate it is?

I am looking for a way just to track pace when I am running outside so I can get a better idea of what pace I am really running before the end of the run when I see how long it took.

I have looked at some of the GPS watches but they are too big and bulky for what I really want to use them for.

    Thanks!

I use one on the treadmill. When I calibrated it outside, I used my Garmin Forerunner 305 at the same time and it seemed very accurate (matching the reviews I've read). IMHO, carrying an ipod seems a whole lot more cumbersome than the newer GPS watches.

I'm also not sure how robust the custom workout creation functionality is. Nor am I impressed with the nikerunning site. It's mostly pretty marketing graphics.

The absolutely minimal approach is the Nike Sportband.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about going this direction as I already carry the ipod when I run.

I have the Nike Sportband II (the watch with a USB captor that plugs into the computer, with a sensor on the shoe). It has its limitation but it's fine.

I think it's great. I live in a very hilly area and since calibrating it (on a hilly run) it's been about 3-5% off most of the time, never more than that.

I like that it gives me instant information about my pace. I know it's not totally accurate (it's under-calibrated, which makes me feel better knowing I'm actually running faster) but it's enough for me.

It has even changed my running habits. I used to be mindful of where I ran because I would have to map my run afterwards. Now I just run and the gizmo takes care of figuring out the distance.

What I dislike is that I cannot save the data on my computer. It all goes into the NikePlus web site.

    For now, overall: Love it!

    Ha!

A bit funky but it'll work - you have to find your Nike id which may be found in the web address when looking at all your runs on the Nike site.

If you make your profile public, Slowgeek will be able to pull your runs and you can get a CSV file of all your runs from there. You can see an example here: http://slowgeek.com/pr/rlerdorf

On the right above the table of runs you will see a little disk icon. Click on that to get a CSV file of my runs.

If you use Sporttracks, there is a CSV file import plugin. Of course, you can alway add your 2 cents on the ST's forums asking for a NikePlus import plugin.

    Breaking news

One of the developers contacted me this morning and is writing a SportTracks plug-in to:

    1) access the XML files on iPod Nano's
    2) pull data from your nikerunning.com account (as iPod Touch doesn't allow access to the XML files)

He's testing option 2 with me.

If and when he's ready for more testers, I'm sure he'll post on the SportTracks forum. Keep an eye out. Look for old_man_biking's posts. He writes some terrific plug-ins.

Grog - I just tested the new SportTracks plugin. Pulls the Nike data beautifully.
