That's the purpose of stopping GStart. Read my notes about GStart above. Look for the little blue "g" icon.

Sure you can. In ST, you can import directly from the device. Keep your Garmin connected via USB, click import and then click on the icon that matches your device.
If I had to export a file and then import it, it wouldn't happen.

Stopping Gstart does not stop me from using GTC nor does it uninstall GTC; it just stops GTC from opening automatically when I attach a device. If I want to run GTC, I just manually open it like any other program.
