I have patients who are police officers. One of them dealt with Monfort. Then the Lakewood situation, which hit them all so hard. Flying back to Seattle on Monday the plane was utterly full of California officers on their way to the memorial. It was hard not to cry on the plane.
I feel so protective of these men and women. I've seen them hurting (well, mostly they were hurting because I was making them hurt, but that's beside the point) and watched their faces as they've talked about their work.
Step three for me might be telling them how grateful I am for the work they do, if I can manage to do it without crying.
