I use a training tire from Continental tire. I am on my third winter using the same tire so the $70 I paid for it has served me well! When I use my regular tire I do get residue around where the trainer is set up i. e black rubber residue, but not pieces on a closet door that the back wheel is closest to. I understand that you are supposed to wipe off tire with alcohol (rubbing!) prior to using it to decrease the compound that comes to the surface while riding. I'm not sure where I read that- I guess I should find a reference somewhere.
I would think that not enought resistance would cause more tire wear rather than less - anyone have any thoughts here?
BTW - no question is dumb - we all learn from each other.

That's when I was a newb - there are some things I go to my LBS for and some I don't. Tires are an online purchase for me. But if I am ever in Arizona I will gladly purchase them from your store..in bulk!
