My personal goals for 2010 are -

    • Do at least 3 100-mile rides
    • Improve my climbing
    • Possibly do another triathlon (did 2 in '08, but none in '09)
    • Participate in a multi-day bike tour

Hard to think about 2010, I'm still working on my 2009 total mileage goal and the way it is looking I might be riding on New Year's Eve!

For 2010 I want to do at least 1 century and ride at least 2000 miles. DH and I also want to do a supported tour of some kind.

I'm working on goals for December/winter, never mind all of next year!

I have never ridden through the winter, and this year, I would like to. Biking this summer/fall has been very therapeutic, and I don't want to let go of it.

I won't call them goals, but do have a few things I'd like to do in 2010, if I can swing them:

1.) Ride the Northern Central Railroad Trail from mile 0 to the end, spend the night in York, and ride back. I think this would be nice to do on a mild winter weekend. Or in the spring. Or the summer. Or the fall. It's only 41 miles one way, so totally doable physically; just need the time, money, and opportunity!

2.) Ride the Great Allegheny Passage. Maybe (just maybe) combine this with another C&O ride, but since I have a kid in (a very expensive) college, the GAP would be enough if that's all I could afford.

3.) Get better at hills. The only direction I can go on this is up!

4.) At least a metric century. Came close this year, with a 57-mile ride.

    5.) Improve my average speed.

6.) Pass somebody, ANYbody, when I ride! Anyone, anyone at all!! (Anyone over 8 and under 80, anyway.)

Add weight training/ bootcamp this winter.
    Lose 10 lbs. Hahah.
    Swim faster.
Get up to 6k run. Run faster.
    Learn to surf. (Off topic)

Race in at least 2 sprint tris next season and possibly an olympic by the end of season.

I did my first tri in September and loved the experience. Hated the run but I finished. Triathlon bug bit me pretty hard. Is there a nasal inoculation for that?

Well, since I'm still barely out of the newbie category, it's easy to set goals and get there.

    1. I think I might reach 2000 miles this year (I started riding seriously in late July), so it might be reasonable to set a goal of at least 3000 for next year.

    2. I want to reach a stable weight and maintain it- I'm within 3 lbs of my original 2009 goal and 10 more pounds would be amazing. But then I have to keep it off.

    3. My longest ride in one day so far has been 50 miles, so I would like to increase my range and complete 2 or 3 longer rides- and complete at least one century. I must admit I'm all fired up from watching El Tour de Tucson this morning (although I didn't participate).

I'm not done with this year yet! Gimme another month to generate my list!

-- gnat! (probably some speed increase, weightloss, and racing goals, but how do you put a SMART goal around "take more risks"?)
