ACK! Running Son appears to have H1N1

    To disable ads, please log-in.

It's been going around the school like wildfire, and lastnight he started getting the first symptoms.. Sore throat... And now the 101 fever has set in, and he can't talk, barely swallow, eyes look horrible! Poor kid.
Neighbor told me when she called her son's pedi after FOUR days of a 101+ fever he said all he is seeing is H1N1, and doesn't feel there is another strain in our area right now..
    UGH.... here we go!!!

Has the doctor seen your son, Runningmommy?
You may need to get yourself vaccinated..

At this point vaccination probably would not be effective (takes 2 weeks to provide optimal protection), but some tamiflu for the rest of the family might be a good idea. Hope your son feels better quick.

I had H1N1 hit my classroom week before last. I haven't gotten sick yet and not all my 33 of my kids got it, fewer than ten. So maybe you'll be able to avoid it too, RM. And no, I have not been vaccinated.

I hope he gets better soon, RM!

With H1N1 I had the vampire eyes, too. I must've been exposed to the H1N5 (?) in 1969, because I was only out sick for a couple days with H1N1. If you do get it, it may not last as long for you as for your kiddo. (My kid was sicker than I was.)

Like Eden said, it's probably too late for the vaccination. Tamiflu works if you take it early.

    Hang in there!

Appears Running MOMMY now has it!!

Started feeling a sore throat on Saturday but kept saying to myself "it's all in your head".
Nope, this is the first time all day off the couch. Headache, fever, sore throat from hell, and ache worse than after finishing an Ironman.
I think mine might be milder. And I am able to keep running sons fever to around 100-101.
But we have slept ALLL day!
Also picked up a steth at the drugstore lastnight, so can listen for any breathing/lung issues w/the boy.
He had horrible asthma as a baby/toddler, and when he gets sick he has problems.
So back to the couch!!! sigh....

Oh and FWIW- I have been waiting for the vaccines to come out! But all we have been able to get so far is the regular flu one. So I guess we are testament that the regular flu vaccine doesn't work for h1n1. Since we had the other about 3-4 weeks ago.
