I used the plain $15 platform pedals that came with my first road bike for when I do the Breast Cancer walks, since there's so much starting/stopping and general slow-speed riding. I wear Keen sneakers or hiking boots (for rainy days) on the walk and the metal platforms have some ridges that keep my feet from slipping.
For 3 days, I get to part of a thousand other journeys.

BMX pedals are HUGE platforms, with nearly solid contact and little screws/pins that stick up for grip.

Nice thing about them is that you can wear anything on your feet and not get hot spots. So, if you've got residual swelling or you are worried about constricting your ankles or feet and creating swelling with some particular shoes, you can wear any shoes that fit you or don't irritate you as you finish healing up (even if they have soft soles like Crocs or are wider than average). In fact, I find my BMX pedals grip better on softer soled shoes.

If the orthopod puts you into a soft brace after the aircast, it can be accommodated with any ol' shoe on a platform pedal.

I have BMX pedals on 3 of my bikes. (MKS, Kona, Crank Bro) My favorites are the Crank Brothers. I can wear anything, including sandals and Doc Martens. For just the trainer, I think you'd be fine with any platform pedal that was non-slip. Don't go buying an expensive pair of Crank Brother 5050 or Speedplay Drillium BMX pedals unless you'd use them again later!

(although.... just look at these sexy critters http://www.speedplay.com/index.cfm?f...=home.drillium and these are what I have, more pins! http://www.crankbrothers.com/5050_xx.php )

    Knot, your sense of humor--

I am a platform gal too (Wellgos!) and my feet really appreciate the support the platforms give as well as the option of repositioning the foot on the pedal on a longer ride. Plus you can jump off the pedals in the jiffy.

    Speedplay

Drilluims are my newest flat pedals and I love them. I put them on because when I made changes to my bike from surgery. You will not slip with them. Plus they are fun to look at.

Late to the thread, but I wanted to get in another vote for BMX platform pedals. I'm recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery & am unable to clip into my speedplays for the time being (the torque and pressure of clipping in and out is too much for my menscotomized knee). The BMX platforms are huge and when used in combo with my running shoes are pretty grippy. One thing to keep in mind-- I raised my saddle about a centimeter since the combo of the BMX platforms and bulky running shoe sole has my feet a little higher than w/ my road shoes and speedplays.
