I was on my way home from work - riding on the Capital Crescent Trail. There was a couple coming towards me riding their bikes. The woman was in my lane coming straight at me. We were on a section of the trail that is narrow and because of the leaves on the sides of the trail, it was even more narrow than usual. I really don't think that I should have to hop off the trail to let anyone get by but even if I did, I would end up in the woods - either face down or on my butt. So she's coming at me and not making any kind of attempt to move over so I shouted, "Move over!" And just as they came up on me, she moved over slightly and spit on me!I was angry for several minutes (after yelling a few expletives at her) but I decided that I needed to find my happy place again. I started greeting people as I passed them (something I often do). I was telling runners to enjoy their run and cyclists to enjoy their ride. I was getting in a better mood and starting to forget about the spitting incident. But then I got closer to home - where I was off the bike path and back on the roads. As 7rider mentioned earlier today, the traffic lights are still screwed up because of a malfunction with the computer that controls them. So traffic was still a mess. I was less than a 1/4 mile from home and because traffic was so backed up, people were actually crossing the double yellow line - coming directly at me - so that they could turn onto a side street.
My bike is so lit up so it's not like they didn't see me.
On a positive note, I commuted 4 out of 4 days this week. Tomorrow is my day off from work and although I will be biking, I won't be going anywhere near work.![]()
It's almost time to have that glass of red wine so I can really, really de-stress.![]()
