I had one of those rides...

...where it seems like the harder and faster you pedal, the slower you go. And then on the way back, I flew. This was Sunday. When I rode Saturday, there was noticeable winds. I maintained a steady cadence, albeit it was difficult. Sunday, no noticeable winds. The temps had warmed up to the high 40's low 50's... and I struggled on the way down out. Same route, both days.

I hate days like that. But I feel like I redeemed myself on the way back!

Gee, TongueTied, sounds like you were heading into a headwind on your way out and a tailwind on the way back!

I rode both days, too...and those winds were downright brutal on Saturday. I don't know where you ride or if the wind wasn't as bad where you were...but my hubby and I did one of our "usual" routes (we're in the suburbs and generally head west/southwest for our rides) on Saturday morning, and I was about ready to give up and turn around to go home at mile 20. But...I know the guilt would have gotten to me, so I stuck it out. It even started raining on us when we were in the Lemont/Woodridge area...so we pulled into a gas station to let it pass. Then of course, after stopping...it felt like it was 20 degrees colder...brrrrrrrrrrrr! Sunday, was a much nicer day and we rode out to the Aurora area. I still felt a fairly brisk wind on Sunday, but nothing like it was on Saturday. I hate wind!

I'm right on the lake, so because it's convenient I just ride the lake front path down to where it ends and back - almost 40 miles for me. I knew Saturday I would be in for trouble. But Sunday, it didn't seem like there was any wind. I actually got off my bike a few times on the way down because it seemed as if my tires were getting stuck. I guess it was just a case of the headwind demon.

Strong winds here yesterday too, I felt like I battled it both ways. Severe bike coma afterwards.

I have had several rides like that recently. It has been frightfully windy here!
