    This is fun.
That's what I was thinking. Admittedly I was so frustrated that this was being endlessly bandied about and I thought it'd never start.

Like today if I did not have other errands and a doggie I need to run I was about to pick an object, any object, maybe that orphan glove that doesn't match any of my other orphan gloves and post here which farm market I was riding too. Then arrange if anyone wants to by PM to meet a Bay Area TE'er. Unless a TE'er I know was to say they'd meet up. Then it's just "oh ok, you. See you at such and such farm market around this time".

The beauty of this global board is some of us have gotten to meet and actually ride and have eaten the recovery meal together.

Some of us have slept together. Get your minds out of the gutter. By that I mean Bikegoddess and I sharing a tent on AIDS Lifecycle 4. What were you thinking?

Others we only cyber-know but think are cool

Others you don't know at all.

And then ..... there are all the lurkers.

Please use standard online safety rules.

The first TE'er I met IRL was Adventure Girl. We met up for the Tour de California at a BART station and headed over to the city. I completely understand that right after we met she called her husband. But we need to do that these days, let someone know where you're going, who you are meeting. "yeah, she does not look like an axe murderer, she's not a 84 year old Nascar fan kidnapping me to his trailer park."

If you don't know the person meeting at a public place is bet or maybe a cycling event.

This is a fantastic board but unfortunately we also need to be aware that we have hundreds of "guests". Posting your location, name, address phone number or meet times ..... not always wise.

Who knows, someone could be following my every post and abhor my love of wool ....

I'm tentatively in, depending on when, etc. Won't be for many months in my neck of the woods (listening to the cold wind howling). I suspect I may be the closest one to StaceySue (SS - I live near Calumet). It's possible there may be closer people, but I don't know of any. If Stacey is where I think she is, then it's about 175 miles. I'd need to have time to build up some mileage base next season, figure out camping, find a suitable timeframe, etc. So I'm a definite maybe. I want to, but it could be logistically difficult.

This is a truly cool idea.
I live near Rapid River. I do have a cycling friend who lives in Gladstone but has a lot of family in Houghton and visits there often. I could get her to join. I'd love to go for a really long tour - just depends on when Maidei comes here and when I can get vacation time.

It's great to know that there's another yooper on here!

I have some unassigned Travel Bug tags. Would there be any interest in giving Maidei a TB tag? Then she'd have her own bug page with a map and mileage on www.geocaching.com, too.

    journey

Ok, here's what I hoped could happen in terms of getting it from Oz to NZ to the Northern Hemisphere.

I'll pass it to Trekhawk & then i'll post it on to (if she's happy to & is out there still!) Postiechic in Melbourne from there it'll venture to Canberra to Cyclegoddess and Jaydee (if i can track her down..) on to Sydney then up to Brissie then to Cairns. This is if people agree to it!

Our Cairns contingent would then send it to NZ..Dunedin (will have to track the person down) to Christchurch to Wellington, Napier(if i can contact Roadraven), Auckland.

    From Auckland next stop, Singapore.

Do ya think from Singapore it could be sent to Chile?

Communication is the key here & have no idea who knows who...

Yay, CC. A journey of a thousand miles starts with one pedal.

Blog option #1-Starting up the blog requires central administration. I started rough, but nixed the idea for now unless there's 1-2 other TE members who are willing share the blog posting of pics and summary stories on a regular/reliable basis which would have to be emailed from contributing TE members. Each person could take turns being the back-end "poster" for a few months. Other more experienced Wordpress TE people would be appreciated. We cannot open up the blog for 300+ TE members to post stories/pics otherwise there will be spam posted which would require ongoing cleanup.

Use TE section for trip thread(s) option #2- Or just have the trip thread pinned under "Adventure" or "Touring" section. To avoid an overly long thread, we can have first thread cover lst 4 months (Nov. 2009-Feb. 2010) and include it in the title thread. 2nd thread will be next 4 months, etc. How about that? It is cleanest and easiest option for Maidie's trip photos and TE member stories. Requires no ongoing adminstration by any TE member except we still need Susan O.'s thoughts to have the thread digitally "pinned" or bookmarked at the start of "Adventure" or "Touring" section. I have already PM'd her but it is the weekend. So am not expecting an immediate response.

    Ok.. piping in..

I think in honor of our hosts, we should pick a TE logo jersey. I think it'd be cool if it were one of the ones the members designed. I mean how much more fitting is that? WE ARE TE after all (or we represent their demographic). Maybe all TE'ers just sign it with date n location.

I was also thinking along the lines of the charity.. I wonder if we could contact the plus 3 folks and sign up as a team somehow and choose a charity (or maybe more than one as the fund run out) for all the miles the jersey travels.

It'd be great promo for them, I think and for TE..

    2 cents....

Bye Maidei! Have a great trip!

I'm with you Redrock. I'm smack dab in the middle of the country. Anyone available for a MidAmerica loop?

Travel Bug pages at www.geocaching.com include maps of the TB's travels, calculations of mileage, photo albums, messages, updates, etc. No spam, because you must have the number off the tag to log into the page and post.

She could virtually "visit" geocaches to have waypoints for tracking purposes.

I do have some unassigned TB tags, I could easily send one to CC if y'all want one on Maidei.

Finally to see Maidei launching off! How lucky she is there by the beach.

That Traveltags sounds worthwhile if crazycanuck could receive it pretty soon (or the next person?). If something screws up, at least we have the backup TE topic journal thread under "Adventure" that crazycanuck just started up with her photos.

Actually fun, exciting to see this start!

    Nice to meet you, Maidei.

Is she really big, or is that bike real small?
