Dang, I might just need those for onions.
I was fine until I started getting old and presbyopic. Now that I usually take my contact lenses out before I start cooking, onions just kill me!
Or maybe I'll go back to my old trick of keeping a clean sponge reserved for holding in my mouth while I'm cutting onions. (Works just like a piece of bread, except it doesn't get soggy and fall apart, and I'm not super allergic to it.
