It's that time of year again when my nose turns into a faucet

I really love fall. I love the cooler weather, the beautiful fall leaves, etc. It's a great time of year to ride. But here is one thing that I do not love...cool weather riding turns my nose into a faucet! It runs CONSTANTLY!

I am seriously considering bungee cording a box of Kleenex to my handlebars. Luckily I have almost perfected my snot rocketing skills and I'm really quite good at it. But it's totally GROSS!!! I can't believe I don't end up dehydrated from all the snot pouring out of my nose.

I know others have this problem too. My heart goes out to you.

I feel your pain, sista! I really should invest in Kimberly Clark Inc. since I spend oh so much money on Kleenex every year. Boo to cold induced runny noses...

Yup...I'm right there with ya! Mine runs so bad, I cannot drop my head position even the slightest bit...or it literally POURS out of my nose. Ewwwwww! I've done a bit of research on this, and based on what I've read/heard...it's a condition known as vasomotor rhinitis...and cooler air temperature is definitely a factor. I've also been told that there is a prescription nasal spray called Atrovent, that is supposed to help with this annoying problem. I have an upcoming doctor visit in the next few weeks, and I plan on asking him about it.

If you cover your nose with a Buff or something would it help? Taking an antihistamine beforehand? OB tampon that's custom fitted sans the string.

I've tried covering with a Buff or neck gaiter. Works okay for a short while, until I start to get too hot and need to pull it down. I've also tried taking Claritin (the liquigel caps) before riding...doesn't do a darn thing for me.

I'm having good success with rinsing my sinus passages with a netti pot or similar. Got sick of taking sprays and antihistamines all the time.

My eyes tear terribly from the cold air while riding which then causes my nose to run. I really wish the tearing would stop. I've got fairly protective sunglasses but not goggles. Maybe I should invest in a pair of goggles and see if that will keep the cold air out of my eyes and stop the tearing.

I have the exact same problem, much of the time lately it looks like I'm crying like a baby when I ride, especially at the beginning. The eyes start and then the nose follows... not a pretty sight.

Do you wear contacts? I do and wonder if that's part of it.

I thought it was just me. I was blaming Michigan actually, the land of allergens
and gray skies, and more gray skies. I've about had it!

That picture of me lies. There is not blue sky here and/or sunshine. maybe only on that day there was, but that was a year ago.

i am a firm believer in neti pots and snot rockets. i was blowing my nose about the first week i started doing longer rides. my bf actually encouraged me to just do the snot rocket. it really gets it all out and no stopping to blow your nose.
