After not commuting at all last week, I am 3 for 3 this week so I'm really excited to be back on the bike. The weather has been wonderful. Really crisp, cool mornings and warm and sunny late in the afternoon. It is extremely dark in the morning (even with a good light) so some sections of the bike path are very spooky. I feel as if the trees are moving in on me! I had a few close calls with cars today (I wish drivers would pay attention) and I ran over a squirrel yesterday (yuck - not a good feeling). Other than that, uneventful and wonderful rides.
This morning I rode with my daughter on her weeride to her playgroup only to discover it was closed for the day. On the way downtown I found the bolt under my seat was rubbing on my legand when I got to the mall it had ripped a hole in my (loose) pants and my butt was hanging out while I wandered around to find a pair of cheap pants to wear home. lmao I find a pair of jeans
for $5.60 lol So I had to buy them. I'm cheap. And on the way home it was POURING. But it was still fun. My daughter had a blast.
Not a big deal really, but I recently bought some panniers and for the first time ever I rode my bike to the grocery store today and picked up a few things we needed. It was only about 4 miles round trip but I felt good riding and not driving. I don't think the trip took much if any longer riding than it would have by car (I cut through a parking lot).
I'm not a true commuter but I plan to do small shopping trips, runs to the library and things like that by bike when I can. It's a start.![]()

Thanks Tri Girl, I need all the encouragement I can get!
I notice that you live in Oklahoma, me too, in Edmond. Noticed too your reference to the wind, we do have a lot of it to contend with don't we, although today it was surprisingly calm. I love those days when the flags are limp!![]()
I live in NW OKC (The Village to be exact). Very cool- we're neighbors!!!
Riding in Edmond is brave, indeed! You must live fairly close to the college/downtown area if you ride to the Library. Anytime I see someone on a bike using it for utilitarian purposes around here I get VERY excited!
Yes- the wind is definitely something to contend with on a daily basis. No hills- but I think I'd rather have hills than constantly blowing wind. At least with hills you get stronger and get to coast- I've yet to get stronger riding into the wind.![]()
