I had a pair of cycling shoes that turned my feet purple-black for days, every time it rained.

Thank goodness I never had to deal with that, with my @ss!

I had some PI gloves that did that to my hands.

I assume the saddle was a black one? Good luck with it. I'd be hesitant to exchange unless I had some assurance the materials were different, or if I could be reasonably assured that treating the original with Scotch Guard or some such after initial problems would be ineffective.
