10th Oct Rides AKA Umm...darn I chased the wrong person..

I was part of a 5 woman team for the Collie Adventure Race (http://sites.google.com/site/colliem...adventure-race) and thoroughly enjoyed meself.

Collie's 3 hrs SW of Perth & has some pretty good road hills plus some awesome mtn biking so I thought..why not? What I really wondered was if I could maintain a reasonable pace over two sections after a break between them.

I have a funny story though..There were two 5 stage female teams entered & I thought they were team number 56..So there I was at the start & saw that the cyclist for team 56 was riding a hybrid. My immediate thought was " AGHGH..I must beat this person. I can't let anyone riding a hybrid beat me " (i'm not super competitive, I swear) We started in 10 sec intervals & immediately zipped off BUT knew I had to pace myself somehow. The woman passed me but then I overtook her on a hill & just kept mozying it. The hills were a bit steep but very manageable. I kept telling myself, don't look back, just keep at it & you'll beat this other person. The 1/2 way point was at the power station (collie's known for it's power station) and didn't see the rider I wanted to stay ahead of so I zipped it down the hill. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee was all I could think..kept mozying along & did the 27km in 1hr 10min, which is good for me! ( So glad I did a warm up ride earlier in the morning!!!)

Next stages were kayak & then swim. Interesting note about our very young swimmer that we found out in the day..She's part of the state swim team ..I was amazed that she did the 1km course in 14min Which meant I was one of the first to go off on the mtb leg...Eeeee...

The dirt leg was 24km & had heard it was undulating, non technical and a bit sandy. A bit sandy( in particular sections) was not the word!!! Of the two bike courses, this was the harder one for me. I don't know if it's not being 100% sure of my tubeless tire pressure, my food, my legs or something else but i'm always madame slow. Anyways, the hills were not as bad as some I encountered on a mtb event last month I told my team member, i'd be back in about 1hr:30..I was off by 10min..not bad for me! I would have loved some more singletrack!

We saw our runner off & zipped back to town to wait..Great lady who just started running & did two half marathons this year...

Oh yeah, about team number 56..Completely wrong team number to try and beat It was team 75 and we had no hope in sheep kapoopies agains them as apparently they're mainly ironman or superduper athletes

Next event is at the end of November..the 12hr which i'm still looking at doing solo (i'm aiming to do 8 or 9 laps)

Sounds like a fun ride and you did great!

I did the 46 mile (according to my bike computer) route of the Harvest Century.

    http://www.harvestcentury.org

It said it was flat, but it wasn't. (I've found that to be the case in a lot of charity rides lately.) I'm a hill wimp, so I thought it was just me, but several of the other riders thought there were some pretty good hills too. Anyway, I had a blast and will do it again next year (may even do the 75 mile route next time).

Not-so-good personal time (4 hours 24 minutes, so an average of 10.45 mph), I finished and I had a great time. I always think it's great when people you don't even know are cheering you and everyone else on along the way. ("doing great", 'good job", 'almost there'.)

My ride was a 4 mile hike in Estabrook Woods; the wind was gusting up to 30 mph and I just didn't feel like riding in that.
It was gorgeous on the trail and made me itch to get on my mountain bike.

I was supposed to do a 200k Brevet, but wound up only doing a century (had some dental work done the before, which knocked me for a loop)

People in Malibu take out their trash , too

    turn around in Ventura

I was trying out my new headrest:

    Farming California Style:

I stopped at the Pt Mugu Navy base (missile test facility)

    The cut at Mugu rock

    Another prefect day

probabily could have done the whole 200k, but this was more fun

I cramped up bad at mile 20 out of 32 .
Should have hydrated better and eaten some shot bloks.

Saturday the 10th was Salisbury University's annual Seagull Century on the eastern shore of Maryland. This ride is pancake flat, which made my aching back very happy. And, true to form, it rained. And was windy. But...the temps were mild, and neither the rain nor the wind was really that bad. So, 7,000 of my closest strangers and I headed out on a circular route from Salisbury to Assateague Island (land of the famous wild ponies, of which we saw three checking us out warily). DH rode with the fast train. I took the moderately fast train, which finished about 40 minutes slower than them. It was a great ride (although the vendors in the gym this year were awful).

Like ZooZoo I was in Hillsboro, OR for the weekend and rode the 75 mile course of the Harvest Century with my husband and 3 friends (Jennifer, Kara, and Brook). A very hilly route and after our lunch stop a very windy one too! We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express just up the road off Cornell so we biked to and from giving us a total mileage of 78.74 miles. We started late, about 8:30 and finished just before 3:00. Our ride time was 5 hours and 25 minutes with an average speed of 14.5. Those hills and winds were taking its toll on us, especially the last leg of the ride. But we persevered and arrived back at the start in high spirits! We all went out and celebrated with good food and drink around 6:00ish.

I'll have to download the few pictures I took with my cell and post them. We cycled past some beautiful country. Vineyards, orchards, and fields. Trees ablaze with color. Just a wonderful ride. Rest stops were great, especially the lunch stop! Fresh squeezed apple cider, hoagies, cookies, just a ton of stuff.

Yea, I remember learning that -- especially if I'm not riding as much, which I'm not.
