I ride my bike to meet my husband in the next town over, so that I don't have to use extra gas, but I don't ride to work as of yet. I'm thinking if I can become comfortable changing a tire I might ride to work, but it will be winter soon. The weather here is extremely unpredictable. Where I live in Michigan does not always seem very friendly to bicyclists, but I did see 6 on my midday ride today.

Well, okay, but I meant for the purposes of this state-by-state census. How'd they get these numbers? Did any of you respond to a survey of some kind asking if you commute? I never have. Just wondering how accurate this data is.

The long census form only goes to a very small fraction of households. I've never got one. That doesn't mean that their sampling isn't accurate. Obviously the census is only as accurate as people are honest, but how many people are going to lie about whether or not they commute by bicycle? If anything, the numbers would be inflated by people who wish they did or twice a year do or know they oughta.
