How tall are you? I've got one that's too small for me that I'm trying to sell.

oh yeah, 1995, the year some of the kids from my sons' high school didn't get HOME that night because the city couldn't deal with 6" of snow on the ground. They stayed overnight in a nearby school!

My sons were lucky to be heading south instead of north and got home only an hour or so late.

I was so excited for my evening commute to the farm where I get my CSA share. I left my car at the farm this morning, and rode into 20-30mph headwinds the whole way to work, which was okay because I knew tonight's ride would be tailwinds-o-fun-o-rama. Unfortunately, a flat screwed up that plan. I ended up driving to the farm with my share partner. I could have changed my tube and still made it to the farm before closing, but decided to change out the tires instead tonight, and that will be enough tire changing for me for one day. Time for the schwalbe blizzards.

    What the....????
Fall has come early to Maryland.
It was a chilly 48 degrees (8.9 C) this morning - cold enough to pull out the knickers and the jacket. It was supposed to warm up to 70 (21) and be breezy for the ride home, but when I left the parking garage, the wind was howling between Buildings 1 and 2 (I'm in #3), an area that is always a wind tunnel, and it certainly felt to be no where NEAR 70!
I almost pulled my jacket out and put it back on, but figured that by the time I got to the road - away from the downtown stop-and-go puttering - I'd warm up and be fine.
    But....here's the rub.
In the morning, my route is primarily, but ever so slightly, downhill. There was no wind. This evening, heading up that ever so slight uphill to go home, and heading north into the arriving cold front, I had a brutal headwind. Why is it that the ride home - which is uphill - always gives me a brutal headwind??
    It's just so unfair.

Ride home was a bit smelly. Took a long route home and went by road-kill fox, raccoon and skunk. I'll take a different route home tomorrow.

I was exhausted fighting the wind yesterday after going for a ride after work, so today decided I'd just take my surly downtown to the library, drop off some books, take some pics and explore.

Much windier & colder tody and I was riding a more upright bike.

This crazy lady drove by and honked at me and told me to get on the sidewalk.

Crazy lady turned out to be Zen on closer inspection.

had a nice ride through the park on the way back where some kid on a bike with training wheels was racing me.

I've gotta meet this Zen character, she sounds like a hoot. I love her avatar.

Careful, Zen's a terrible influence and likes to stir up trouble. But she's also usually pretty willing to go for a ride.

Made it to school in record time - about 20 minutes - 4 minute miles! I had to get up RBH to get there (really big hill) and it took a couple of stops and some talking to myself to get there, but I did in great time. I did it in a short jean skirt, too, which was remarkable. It took me about 10 minutes less to get here by bike taking the trail (5 miles) than it does to get here by car (3 miles). Too much traffic on the roads.

Today was the most amazing commute I can remember, a special moment I'll treasure for a long time: my daughter biked to school for the first time since her Nov. 3 wreck, and I accompanied her.

Fortunately I didn't notice until after we got home again that she wore the same shirt she wore that day, the t-shirt that had to be cut off of her, that I sewed up! To be fair she didn't select it on purpose. It was her favorite t-shirt before the wreck, because all her best friends had signed it, and it has even more meaning for her because it survived the wreck.

I rode next to her, or in front of her when there was traffic. I don't want to ride behind her (that was my position when the wreck happened). We took the longer way home, because I don't do the left turn into our driveway anymore, I go past it on another street and come back up and turn right.

She was really nervous until she got on the bike. The night before she wanted to change her mind about biking. She was hoping the fog would stick because I said we wouldn't bike if it was foggy. But by morning she was ok.

I met her at school so I could also ride home with her. I felt a little silly because she's 15, she can get home by herself, but I'm not comfortable letting her ride by herself (which is ridiculous because she wasn't by herself when she got hit) and she's not comfortable either. Anyway both trips were really great mom-daughter time.

She came out of school saying how hungry she was. She was super hungry on that last bike ride too. We stopped at the gas station for a (unhealthy) snack, and ate it in a nice little park. (We'll do better next time.)

4-day weekend because of inservice days, then it'll be kind of cold again, but she's looking forward to the next time she can bike to school.

I was going to rearrange my training plans so that I could take advantage of the nice weather and bike to work, but then I remembered I have a doctor's appointment to go to
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

Finally got in a commute to work today. Loved it! Now hoping the storms (I don't care about rain, but do about lightning) hold off so I can get home safely when I leave this afternoon.

I'm trying to decide whether to commute tomorrow, also due to forecast t-storms. Get home safe! Take a ride if you need to.

Beautiful this morning. Wet coming home. I'm so glad to have my Kona back! The fenders sure are nice when it rains. I'm going to try to take the roadie tomorrow, weather permitting, so she can get fitted for new handlebars with a smaller reach.

    Happy Friday, everyone,
