I've certainly bought other bike bits on Ebay, mostly with good results (my current seatpost was an Ebay purchase, and while it's quite functional, I would say it's quite a bit more scratched than the description suggested -- just cosmetic and in my case it's actually all below the insertion line, so it doesn't show, but I was mildly peeved -- I think that's my worst experience so far).
