How do you know when it's time for new cleats? Website says when you hear a clicking sound but are there other, more visible signs?

When you start coming unclipped for no apparent reason, or have trouble getting clipped in, like it doesn't want to connect properly (like mine are doing these days). When I look at mine and compare to DH's new ones, I cannot see any visible difference. But definitely a different feel when clipping in and out.

    Thank you,

I took them apart and cleaned them, there was lots of mud caked underneath them.

I rode the entire length of the Mickelson Trail in S. Dakota (109) and they seemed ok but I'm still thinking they need to be replaced, I've lost track of the # of miles they have on them.
